When fertility treatment ends without the outcome you hoped for, it can bring a quiet yet profound grief that often goes unseen.

For many people, unsuccessful treatment is losing a hoped‑for future and a version of yourself you were preparing to become. This grief is layered and complex leaving you with questions about your own identity, relationships, and the way you imagined your life would be.

Our imagination is so powerful that it can take us to the very end of our lives. If you are reading this, I am sure that at some point, you have imagined holding your baby, what (and who) they looked like or created a list of your favourite names. Perhaps you have imagined the conversations you might have had and imagined times where you comforted them or protected them.

So, is it any wonder that you are struggling now?

What makes this grief especially difficult is how invisible it can be. Others may not fully understand the emotional weight of fertility treatment. The cycles of hope, fear, waiting, and constant adjustment. When treatment ends, the world moves on quickly and you are left to ‘get on with it’.

My own experience of unsuccessful fertility treatment informs the way I work as a therapist. I understand how hard this is, and how important it is to have a space where your grief is understood. The truth is that I do not have answers for you. I will not try to change how you are feeling and I will not try to offer fixes. I can give you a place to process what you have been through, safe in the knowledge that I have been through something similar. I will not advise you based on my own experiences and will not share details of my own treatment.
